INDIVIDUAL THERAPY FOR CHILDREN
Often academic and behavioral problems accompany a variety of mental
health issues such as mood disorders, anxiety disorders, impulse control
disorders attachment disorders, grief and loss issues, substance issues,
and a broad range of developmental issues. We frequently use techniques
such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, therapeutic story-telling,
relaxation techniques, guided imagery, play therapy and reality therapy
when working with children individually.

ADULT THERAPY
Services are available for adults also. These include competent and
experienced therapists who can help with individual and couples’ issues,
problems with mood, trauma, impulse control issues, anger management,
substance abuse and more. Parents of children who are having academic
and/or behavioral difficulties are often extremely frustrated. Sometimes
their despair and frustration can lead to family conflicts, which only
make the situation worse for the child. Sometimes parents can benefit
greatly from sessions held without their children.

FAMILY THERAPY
Working with a child’s family is essential to fully understand how her
problems are displayed and dealt with on a daily basis. Family dynamics
are powerful forces in a child’s life and almost always influence how a
child approaches school and learning. We often use structural therapy,
solution-focused therapy and strategic therapy when working with families.

SCHOOL INTERVENTION
The best place to change behavior is often in the environment where the
behavior is exhibited. Talking with a child’s teacher, observing a child
in class and reviewing the child’s progress at school are excellent ways
to really understand how academic and behavioral problems work. Sometimes,
very simple changes made in the classroom can have enormous effects on a
child’s behavior and progress. We usually find teachers and school
administrators very receptive to talking with our staff and developing
plans to help address children’s academic and behavioral needs.

TUTORING
ABC offers tutoring in most subject areas by experienced, certified
teachers. Our tutoring program is quite different in that no two lesson
plans are alike. Each lesson is custom tailored to your child’s needs. All
instruction is done one on one so your child gets maximum attention from
the teacher. Parents get copies of all lesson plans. Close coordination
with your child’s regular classroom teacher is routine. We have a
centrally located office where your child meets Individually with our
tutors. Additionally, we offer and encourage tutoring sessions at school
or at home.
